Phillip Schofield pays tribute to Fern Britton to mark This Morning milestone ‘So lovely’ | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

This Morning presenters Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield kicked off Tuesday’s show with a celebration of his 20th anniversary presenting the ITV chat show. After playing a montage of clips from his first day on the job, Phillip touched on how nervous he was on his first day. He then praised his co-star at the time, Fern Britton, for how she made him feel comfortable on his debut show.

Opening the show, Holly began: “We couldn’t start today’s show without mentioning something very special. Actually, it really is a huge achievement.”

“I didn’t realize!” Phillip exclaimed as Holly explained: “Yesterday, we were doing our meeting, it’s always at the end of the show.

“And it’s like, ‘What’s coming on tomorrow’s show?’ And the producers went, ‘Did you know, it’s 20 years exactly since Phil officially started presenting on This Morning?’ 20 years!”

“It’s gone like that!” he said and clicked his fingers before viewers were shown the montage of clips.

Stunned at the young and eager Phillip, Holly expressed: “Oh my god! I have never seen that!” to which Philip added: “Oh my god!

“I don’t think I have ever seen that, that must have been in the first-ever series of I’m a Celeb.”

Holly exclaimed: “Yeah, it would have been, 20 years ago, it is their 20th anniversary this year. Do you know what is so weird about that?

“Seeing you as the new boy! That is so weird because it just feels like you have been here forever!”

A reported feud between Fern and Phillip came after she claimed she felt “undervalued by ITV” and that she was “living in Phil’s shadow”.

However, it seemed their tense relationship was put to bed when she appeared on Lorraine to congratulate his 40 years on television.

Fern co-hosted This Morning with Phillip from 2002 to 2009 before she ultimately left the show.

Burying the hatchet back in February, Fern said in a pre-recorded clip: “40 years is an incredible milestone.

“And it’s time for you to stop and look back and see all that you have achieved and be proud of it.

“So I’m wishing you a very happy future. Congratulations and keep going.”

A few years after they fell out and Fern left the ITV show, Phillip told Heat magazine in 2013: “We were involved in the show and mates at the time, but we don’t really [speak].

“I see Philo [Fern’s then-husband, chef Phil Vickery] when he’s in This Morning… But we’re not in touch now.”

This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV.
