Love Island’s Amber Gill reveals all on her sexuality after saying she ‘switched teams’ in tweet

Amber Gill says she is dating girls after ‘coming out’ in a tweet prompted by the men on this year’s series of Love Island.

The brunette beauty, 25, bagged the £50,000 cash prize while being coupled up with Irish rugby player Greg O’Shea in 2019, but has now ‘switched teams’ and dates both men and women.

In July she hinted at dating both sexes while commenting on the antics of the male contestants on this year’s show after the girls were shipped off to Casa Amor.

Amber said that watching the men ‘made her feel ill’, after everyone but Luca Bish made moves on the new arrivals in the main villa.

In a series of tweets, Amber wrote: ‘Switching teams was the best decision I made in my life. Watching men makes me feel ill. I couldn’t put myself through it again.’

She has now confirmed that she has recently been dating girls and that she doesn’t have a type when it comes to girls.

She told Closer Magazine: ‘I’m not like 100 per cent over guys. I was annoyed at the time with guys when I said all that [on Twitter] but yes, I have dated girls, In the past and recently as well, It’s great.

Girls are gorgeous! Before, I didn’t have awareness [about my sexuality] and now I have awareness and it is what it is, I don’t have a type; I like what I like.

‘I do still date guys, I am just saying I date whoever I want to date, when I want to date them – It’s not this big thing and I don’t like to define it.’

Amber also confirmed that she is single at the moment despite being on the dating scene.

And after the launch of her first ever novel, Until I Met You, a romantic story which was released in April, she says there is a chance of a same-sex love match featuring in her next book.

Chatting to hosts Bobby Norris and Stephen Leng on the showbiz gossip program Access All Areas, the reality star explained that her tweet in July was an ‘off the cuff comment’ but admitted that it was ‘true’, following up by saying ‘I meant exactly what I said.’

When asked by Stephen Leng if this was her coming out, the 24-year-old responded saying: ‘Accidentally, I remember looking at it [the tweet] and thinking sh**t, what have I said.’

She went on to say ‘Like a lot of my friends were like if you were gonna do it any way, that’s the typical way that you would do that.’

‘Normally people have these lovely, beautiful stories and lovely, beautiful real Instagram posts, like just lush. I’ve put switching teams on a tweet and that’s how I came out.’

In the interview the star was also asked if she has a lady in her life, she quickly responded saying ‘I don’t, not right now’ but said that she was ‘open to it’.

Amber also responded to a follower that replied to her saying: ‘Me and my gf were saying just yesterday that we predict you’ll end up settling down with a woman.’

The fan wrote: ‘Because you seem to be very disenchanted by men these days, and we feel like a woman (the right woman) is more likely to appreciate you for all your complexities and inner fire.

‘And treat you with the level of care/sensitivity that you deserve.’

Clearly touched by the message, Amber wrote: ‘Now I’m crying.’

Another person wrote: ‘Omg congrats kween’ [rainbow emoji].’

Amber, who won Love Island in 2018, previously suggested she was open to dating women after admitting that she was attracted to them.

In July last year, one of her fans asked her: ‘Bestie, I’m afraid to ask you this,’ with a series of fruit emojis, hinting towards her being a part of the LGBTQ+ community.

Amber replied to the tweet, saying: ‘Sometimes’.

At the National Television Awards several days later, she referenced the tweet and said ‘the fruit emojis mean the fruit emojis, what can I say? Some days I might be, some days I might not’, she told the Daily Star.
