Daisy May Cooper speaks about split from ex-husband Will Weston

Daisy May Cooper has spoken out about her split from her ex-husband Will Weston and candidly admitted that ‘there wasn’t real love there’.

The comedian, 36, admitted they both felt pressure to get married in 2019 because they thought they should ‘settle down’, but they split two years later.

Daisy and Will ended their marriage in July 2021, soon after their second child Jack was born in October 2020. The pair also share a daughter Pip, four.

Speaking about their split, Daisy gushed that Will is ‘amazing’ and an ‘incredible’ father but admitted lockdown ‘shone a spotlight’ on their marital difficulties.

She said they both realized that ‘there wasn’t real love there’ and said she felt that she needed to be by herself after the strains of the Covid-19 pandemic.

She told The Times: ‘Will is amazing, an incredible, incredible dad – but fundamentally, there wasn’t real love there, I don’t think there ever was, really.’

Daisy said she thinks Will would agree with her and that they both felt pressure to get married and settle down once they reached their thirties.

The actress said cracks began to show while she was pregnant with Jack during lockdown, saying they argued about her not wanting to go out for dinner or join her family for a meal at home.

Daisy said the breaking point came when her daughter Pip asked her to put a pair of dungarees on a Sylvanian Families figure from her own childhood toy set.

She said she couldn’t get the outfit on the toy and Pip wouldn’t play with the Sylvanians like she wanted, saying she felt like she ‘couldn’t cope’ in that moment.

Daisy said it made her realize she needed a change, adding: ‘I had tears streaming down my cheeks. I told my husband — well, my then-husband — ‘I’ve got to go outside, just walk, on my own’.’

Daisy said she began considering divorce after reading a heartbreaking post on Mumsnet from a woman in her seventies who had felt ‘trapped’ in her marriage.

She said reading the post and then becoming friends with Selin Hizli, an old adversary from drama school, made her realize she needed to leave her marriage.

Daisy said when she became friends with Selin, they candidly spoke about what was happening in their lives, with Daisy explaining that she realized what ‘real love’ was because she felt ‘understood’ by her friend.

The This Country star said their platonic love for each other helped her to realize that she needed to move out, saying ‘life’s too short’ not to be happy.

The realization about her marriage came when their second child Jack was around four weeks old, but she said her and Will’s relationship hadn’t been working for around three years.

Following her split from Will, Daisy dated Ryan Weymouth during a five-month whirlwind romance where she got his name tattooed on her ring finger.

They ended their relationship around two weeks after she got the tattoo – which she has since had covered – but said she doesn’t care about the inking as she is making the mistakes she felt she ‘couldn’t make’ before.

Daisy said she is now enjoying dating, but isn’t in a serious relationship, as she admitted she doesn’t think she could live with a man again.

It was reported in July 2021 that Daisy and Will had parted ways after two years of marriage.

An insider told The Sun at the time: ‘Daisy said she had grown increasingly tired of married life and was struggling in her relationship with Will.

‘They ended things for good earlier this year. She has taken off her wedding ring and has been telling her friends their marriage is over.

‘She has also removed Will as a director on her media business. It’s been a tough 17 months for everyone and Daisy and Will were no exception.’

Following their split, Daisy then dated Ryan but the pair parted ways after a whirlwind five-month romance.

During their romance, Daisy got Ryan’s name tattooed on her finger and the pair sparked engagement rumours in March when she wore a ring on her wedding finger.

But in May, it was reported that Daisy had ‘dumped’ Ryan because she wanted to enjoy being single, with Ryan said to be ‘gutted’ at their romance ending.

Her friend told The Sun at the time: ‘Daisy dumped Ryan because she decided she didn’t want to be tied down again, she loves the single life.

‘Ryan is really gutted it’s all over already – it was a whirlwind which he truly thought could end in marriage.’

It is understood that the pair unfollowed each other on Instagram at the time and Daisy removed all traces of their romance from her social media page.

Daisy and Ryan sparked engagement speculation in March when she wore a ring on her wedding finger on the set of her BBC series Rain Dogs in Bristol.

During their five-month romance, Daisy also tattooed Ryan’s name on her ring finger, sharing a photograph of the inking to her social media.

The couple went Instagram official in December, when Ryan posted a snap of them cuddled up on a sofa.

They then made their red carpet debut in March as they stepped out publicly together for the first time at London’s O2 Academy Brixton.
