CHANDIGARH: Punjab social justice, empowerment and minority minister Dr Baljit Kaur said on Friday that using the Dr Ambedkar Scholarship‘s portal opened on April 21, 50,851 students had applied for the post-matric scholarship scheme for scheduled caste and backward class students till August 3.
The minister warned of action against officials if she received a complaint of unnecessary obstruction by any of them. Presiding over a review meeting of the department at Punjab Bhawan, the minister said the state government had increased budgetary allocation by 47% for the welfare of students belonging to scheduled castes, backward classes and minorities. “Ensure that the applications received under the aashirwad scheme are settled at the earliest,” said the minister. She also ordered that benefits worth Rs 160 crore be paid for the period from November 2021 to March 31, 2022, to 31,418 beneficiaries.
Reviewing the post-matric scholarship scheme, the minister directed that the claims received from eligible students be sanctioned in a time-bound manner and the proposals be sent to the executing departments to ensure timely delivery of benefits to students.
