SKY BET Sunday Series action continues at Haydock this weekend when previous series winner MISTER BLUEBIRD is fancied to take the Sky Bet Sunday Series Sprint Handicap.
This really consistent sort stepped up to seven furlongs to score comfortably at Musselburgh in early June, but six furlongs with a bit of cut in the ground could be equally ideal here.
Mister Bluebird appears to have been given a break after finishing fourth at Newmarket just over a fortnight later but looks generally progressive and, earlier in the season, won over a stiff six at Ascot.
Last September, he again proved his versatility when scoring over just five furlongs on good to soft ground at Ffos-Las under Sunday’s booked rider Hollie Doyle, and the Heather Main-trained gray can give us a run for our money in a competitive field.
half an hour later, MIRAMICHIA is set to re-confirm his love for Haydock in the Sky Bet Sunday Series Middle Distance Handicap.
The son of Markaz has been hovering around the same handicap mark for much of the season but seems best on this course and was beaten less than a length when fourth over the course and distance last September.
Miramichi had scored twice at Haydock earlier in the campaign and, more recently, ran three solid races off this mark at Newbury before proving no match for Francesco Clemente in a Class Two handicap at Newmarket last month.
While beaten nine lengths that day, he was well clear of two other rivals and, given that the winner holds St Leger and Arc entries, he was up against it to say the least.
Back in a Class Four, back on his favorite course and with the very useful Pierre-Louis Jamin taking off 3lb, Miramichi looks sure to be thereabouts.
In the Sky Bet Sunday Series Fillies Handicap, the hard-working RAINBOW COLORS can continue her recent solid form.
Charlie and Mark Johnston ran this filly four times in July, including twice in five days at Goodwood where she chased home the highly promising Crystal Caprice over a mile before finishing sixth to Ajero from a wide draw in the final race (1m1f) of that festival meeting.
In the latter race, Rainbow Colors was in front a furlong out but struggled to get home and, given a week off since and returning to a slightly shorter distance, she can make her presence felt with stall one ideal for such a prominent racer.
finally, FRANKENSTELLA is worth taking a chance with, despite an absence, in the Sky Bet Sunday Series Stayers Handicap.
Off since finishing a highly creditable third behind Ahorsewithnoname and Master Milliner (both winners subsequently) at York in May after a year off, John Quinn’s daughter of Frankel is clearly useful while also perhaps a bit fragile.
But if the in-form Quinn has got Frankenstella right for this latest comeback, she could well hold a class edge despite 10 stone top weight, and her defeat of Rajinsky (now 11lb higher) over this course and distance off just a 4lb lower mark earlier last season highlights her claims.
This full sister to the top stayer Master Of Reality (fourth in a Melbourne Cup) still has time to take much higher rank if all remains well with her.
